Rachel is the author of two acclaimed novels. Her first, The Quakers (2008), was winner of the Adelaide Festival Award for Best Unpublished Manuscript and described by John Birmingham as “un-put-downable”. Her second novel, The Heaven I Swallowed (2013), was runner up in the Vogel Award, and longlisted for the Nita B. Kibble Award. She has also published much non-fiction, in Overland, Kill Your Darlings, TEXT, The Lifted Brow, Meanjin and Daily Life.
Currently, Rachel is working on her third novel, entitled Keep Me Close – a fictionalised re-telling of the writing of her first novel in the hothouse of a creative writing workshop. She plans to read extracts from this, as well as from books which she believes are, as Kafka would have it, “the axe for the frozen sea within us”.
Come along for a thought-provoking (and fun) evening.

Finding the perpetrator will be no easy task for our recently arrived protagonist, ticket-of-leave gentleman convict Hugh Monsarrat. Through his ever-loyal housekeeper and unofficial sidekick, Mrs. Mulrooney, Monsarrat gains access to the inner workings of the Female Factory and with it, a chance to uncover the truth behind Church’s murder. Not all murder victims are mourned, but the perpetrator must always be punished in The Unmourned - Book Two in The Monsarrat Series.

"Mitchell is a terse and observant writer, as alive to the particulars of Aussie idiom and experience as Tim Winton, but less showy ... It's hard to wrote about the thwarts and flaws of conventional masculinity without coming across as either too harsh or too sentimental. Mitchell succeeds in doing so." The Age reviewing We. Are. Family..
“Mitchell’s writing is challenging, exhilarating and touched with a deep sense of humanity” - Tony Birch, winner of the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Indigenous Writing for Ghost River.
“Write drunk, edit sober” – Ernest Hemingway

For our first book launch, we have the honour of presenting Lucy Durneen's fabulous first collection of short fiction - Wild Gestures - published by Aussie independent, Midnight Sun.
It is hard to describe Durneen's stories because they are so rich and vibrant; there is just so much going on. With brilliant characters, unexpected worlds, raw honesty, and sensory extravagance, Durneen slices straight through to the heart with her dazzling word-play. There is darkness and pain but, also, an almost whimsical optimism at the heart of these stories, leaving the reader in awe at the everyday beauty of life and love.
